Religions have roles to play in the education of Rwandan youth especially guiding them to do the right things and to shun away from immoral behaviours and crimes.

The statement was made by Emmanuel Sebuhoro the rector of Rwanda Tourism College (RTC) Gisenyi branch during the official launch of Moslem Students Association in the college.

The Islam religion that aims at spreading love and peace among the youth and to encourage students in this college to live better lives by discouraging drug use was officially inaugurated on Wednesday the 6th, Aug, 2014.

Rwandan Mufti Ibrahim Kayitare who attended this function asked the students in Higher Institutions of Learning to participate in finding answers to issues affecting youth especially drug abuse.

“Most youth are hopeless due to continuous drug use and addiction, learn to participate in nation building and save fellow youth from issues like drugs and unemployment,” said Mufti Kayitare.

For Abdul Karim Tuyishime, the Islam student community representative, what they were asked of are their objectives in forming the Moslems Students Association.

“Our objectives are to teach the word of Allah to as many people as possible and fight immoral behaviours among the youth including drug usage.

Rubavu district neighbours Democratic Republic of Congo where marijuana and heroin is grown. Most youth in the district use drugs despite the continuous sensitization programs on the dangers of drug use.
