Religious leaders in Rusizi district are being called upon to learn and guide their followers especially the youth on Family Planning and reproductive health issues.
The call was made at the closing of the conference organized last week by Rusizi district administration in support of Health Development and Performance project (HDP) a Non Governmental Organization that supports health sector.

Health Development and Performance project aims at reducing the increase in population through teaching people especially the youth about family planning and child spacing and giving birth to children they are able to provide for.
In this conference, the religious leaders were made aware of the population increase versus people’s economic situations and their need to step in and guide their followers to use family people.

“Religious leaders will have to step in and encourage their followers to use family planning to curb the overpopulation affecting Rwanda,” said Emmanuel Ndamuzeye the health officer in Rusizi district.
The Religious leaders who ended this conference said they now understand the need for family planning program in their followers. “I for one will play my part in encouraging my congregation to participate in this health venture that affects the population of our country,” said Pastor Felix Sebineza, the senior pastor of Zion Temple in Rusizi.
