Red Cross –Rwanda in partnership with youth from the historically margnilsed people living in Miyove sector officially handed over houses to two vulnerable families.
Turiho Kubwimana, one of the beneficiaries who could not hide his excitement said: “For a long time we have been living in what we would describe as the kitchen and thank God we have got a better house, it’s really a miracle for me and my family.”
“As it is the duty of Red Cross to support vulnerable people, we resolved to support these two families after establishing that they were in dire need of better housing , in other words they were the most vulnerable among others,” explained Dr. Nzigiye Bernard, the president of Red Cross Rwanda.
Jacqueline Mutegwaraba the Gicumbi district officer for development while handing over the houses mentioned that marginalized families living in sector they have not yet grasped the concept of hard work for their development.
With the support of Red Cross the houses were constructed by marginalized youth from Musanze, Burera and Gicumbi during the ongoing solidarity camps (Ingando) in Gicumbi district.
Besides the donation of the houses, Red Cross also taught the marginalized people on how to cater for vegetable gardens and preparation for nutritious meals to fight malnutrition
