If you are driving in the Nzahaha sector in Rusizi and see something bright yellow go by, it is not early spring flowers. Sector citizens have recently received a much needed new ambulance.

The ambulances donated by Italy Rotary club is to boost Rwanda’s efforts in reducing maternal, infant mortality rates and morbidity.

Dr. Joseph Desire Ndizeye, the director of Rwinzuki Health Center while receiving the ambulance said the new ambulances is a solution to the residents.

“Before, it was difficult to help pregnant mothers and other critically ill people who live in Nzahaha sector to be rescued but now they can be saved in less than 30 minutes,”   Ndizeye said.

Ndizeye thanked Italy Rotary club for their support and pledged efficient management and good maintenance of the ambulance.

“I am happy about this initiative, the ambulance will ease access to health facilities, especially for us mothers and children that usually need urgent means of transport when in critical conditions,” said Chantal Nyiraneza, a resident of Nzahaha sector.
