Rwandan clerics and other local citizenry on Monday voiced their support to amend the constitution to allow President Kagame to run for third term in 2017.

The clerics supports the amendment of Article 101 of the Constitution which restricts the President to two seven-year terms.

Clerics voiced their support in a meeting with local leaders in Gakenke district.

Pastor Alex Niyibizi, a senior pastor of ADEPR Gashenyisaid “we want President Paul Kagame to remain in office; we still believe he has the potential to steer Rwanda to more heights than it is today.

Speaking on behalf of other clerics from different denominations cited the president’s record on development, peace and unity in the country that in 1994 suffered a genocide which left more than 800,000 people dead.
