Rusizi: UNICEF in malnutrition fight drive

United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) Rwanda in partnership with Rusizi district donated goats to 525 families with malnourished children in all sectors of Rusizi district as a way of fighting malnutrition.

Every household with a malnourished child received a goat to help them fight malnutrition in children.

This campaign against child malnutrition started in Rwimbogo, Gihundwe and Butare sectors of Rusizi district.

525 households were also given goats in the first phase.

One of the beneficiaries, Marie Muhawenimana said she will take good care of the goat and fight malnutrition in her children in addition to achieving sustainable development.

Egide Gatera, in charge of health in Rusizi district urged beneficiaries to take good care of the livestock to fight malnutrition in children, economically benefit from them and pass the off springs to other vulnerable homes.

Dr. Simba Calliope Akintije, Director of Mibirizi hospital highlighted that livestock will help residents to get manure to use in growing vegetables and other crops that fight malnutrition.

Its planned that 1968 families in Rusizi district will be given livestock as a way to fight malnutrition.
