Compassion international projects train parents of the beneficiaries on fighting malnutrition

As a way of eradicating malnutrition among children, Compassion International funded projects in Nyamagabe and Huye districts have embarked on educating parents of the beneficiaries on how to prepare nutritious meals for the children.

Some parents sell eggs, milk, fruits to get money and cater for other needs. This leaves children to eat food without nutrients and vitamins leading to malnutrition.

Malnutrition is the condition that results from eating a diet in which certain nutrients are lacking, in excess (too high in intake), or in the wrong proportions.

This week in Nyamagabe district parents were educated on the components of a nutritious meal and how to prepare it through demonstrations.

“As partners, we intend to be part in fighting malnutrition among children. This is because some of our beneficiaries have malnutrition issues,” said Jean Damascène Ngarambe, program facilitator at Compassion International Rwanda in Nyamagabe and Nyaruguru districts.

“The training was beneficial. I am going to make kitchen garden and get vegetables to complete the meals,” said Françine Mwisizina, a parent.

“Sensitising parents to serve nutritious meals to the children is underway. We educate them on using the available vegetables and fruits to fight malnutrition,” revealed   Chantal Nyirazana, in charge of family promotion in Nyamagabe district

Out of 1,527 beneficiaries of Compassion International in Nyamagabe district, 42 show malnutrition signs of malnutrition.

Compassion International is a Christian child sponsorship organization dedicated to the long-term development of children living in poverty around the world.

Children in the program are provided food and clean water, medical care, education, life-skills training, and spiritual guidance.
