Netherlands Embassy in Rwanda has donated mattresses, cooking utensils, toys and a 9 seater vehicle to the “Umwana nk’abandi” foundation.

“Umwana nk’abandi” foundation is located in Mumena cell, Nyamirambo sector in Nyarugenge district.

The foundation is a Non-Government Organisation started in March 27th 1991 to restore hope to the families of children with mental disabilities. It cares for 30 children out of which 18 reside at the foundations premises.

Berthilde Mukakarangwa, President of the “Umwana nk’abandi” foundation expressed happiness towards the few but fulfilling sponsors including the Embassy of the Netherlands.

She urged more sponsors and other good hearted people to come to their cause so that children with mental disabilities can access enough help.

Maria Veger, in charge of external affairs at the Embassy of Netherlands in Rwanda highlights that they are happy for the help they offer to the mentally disabled children.

She calls on Rwandans to help and make these children feel comfortable and loved in the society.

The objective of “Umwana nk’abandi” foundation is to protect the mentally disabled, improve social standards, and provide basic health among others.
