Jean d’Amour Bakomeza the executive secretary of Giti sector says giving pigs to his residents is a strategy that will develop people in socio-economic statuses. He promised Red Cross to make follow up on the local people who were given pigs and to find market for their production in support of their development.

Budensiana Mukarusagara one of the beneficiaries appreciated being considered by Red Cross to be given a pig. “Since pigs are more productive, I will no longer lack a thing, I will be able to pay for my Mutuelle de santé insurance on time, I will get manure to boost my farming and I will steadily get out of poverty.”

Prosper Ruberwa who is in charge of health in the Red Cross Rwanda explained the importance of pig farming to the people if they take care of them. “Pigs will help in eradication of poor eating habits, you will get manure to boost your farming as well as be able to solve some financial issues.”

Red Cross Rwanda has helped many people in Gicumbi district through livestock especially members of cooperatives. Red Cross has already given other 39 pigs and 90 cows to members of these cooperatives.
