Rusizi calls for Church Leaders to help promoting Health Insurance programme

Religious and church leaders in Rusizi district are being called upon to encourage their congregations to pay for medical insurance. With one month to the end of the 2012/2013 economic year, the district has 86percent people’s participation in Mutuelle de santé medical insurance.

The district is counting on church leaders to encourage their followers to have the medical insurance for the next economic year 2013/2014 with the concept saying healthy soul lives in healthy body.

Francoise Nirere the vice mayor for social affairs in Rusizi district says there are limitations that made the district not achieve 100 percent people’s participation in Mutuelle de santé.

Among these limitations include delay to report the list of people that need to be supported in paying for this medical insurance according to the Ubudehe classification program.

Some of the church leaders in Rusizi district say they understand their role in sensitizing their followers to participate in this health venture.

Though some of the church goers are poor, some church support their members when necessary especially in an important thing like medical insurance.

With the economic year 2012/2013 ending in June, the district is sensitizing people to start contributing towards the 2013/2014 and until now 70percent of the people have already participated.
