Red Cross upbeat on vaccination campaign Rwanda Red Cross Volunteers are conducting an awareness exercise mobilizing communities for the upcoming vaccination campaign. The campaign targets children between 9 months and 14 years.

The exercise has been taking place in Kigali City and provinces ahead of the vaccination that will see millions of Children being vaccinated against Measles and Rubella across the country. The vaccination campaign against measles and Rubella will be held from 12th to 15th March.

Over 1000 Rwanda Red Cross volunteers are participating in the mobilization exercise in Gisagara and Nyaruguru District- educating residents on the importance of the vaccination campaign against measles and rubella.

The population is aware of the importance of vaccinating children against measles and other diseases. But Rwanda Red Cross volunteers mobilizing communities for the upcoming vaccination campaign say they visit some households only to be received by housekeepers, whom they don’t think transmit the message properly.

“We, volunteers of the Rwanda Red Cross, we sometimes encounter challenges in this mobilization exercise. We want to record Children’s ages and other information, but at some households parents are not there to give us all information that we need” one volunteer said.

Local authorities have however pledged support to mobilization residents ahead of the vaccination dates.
