Twelve (12) cooperatives for people living with HIV/AIDS in Nyamasheke district were on Thursday the 7th.March.2013 given 48 cows by ATEDEC (the technical action for development of local communities).

Cooperative members who were given cows were asked to take good care of them and use them to get to development by the district mayor Jean Baptiste Habyarimana.

HIV/AIDS carriers in the 12 cooperatives are from Karengera, Bushekeri, Kagano and Ruharambuga sectors. They were given cows by ATEDEC in support of Girinka program that was initiated by the president of the republic of Rwanda in 2006.

The coordinator of ATEDEC on the National level Alexis Mahoro Rubibi appreciated the cooperation between ATEDEC and Nyamasheke district and hopes for good production from these cows.

Before these cows were provided, members were first visited to evaluate if they have all the requirements to own a cow.

Anastasie Nyirandimurwango a member of Abizera cooperative in Ntendezi cell in Ruharambuga sector who was given a cow appreciates ATEDEC for thinking about the poor and sick and giving them cows to improve their social wellbeing and give them hope.

ATEDEC has given out 114 cows in Nyamasheke district of which 31 of them has reproduced.
