The Rwandan Land Husbandry, Water Harvesting and Hillside Irrigation (LWH) Project that operates in the Ministry of Agriculture (MINAGRI) officially concluded the maize growing session in the cultivation season 2013 B on Friday the 15th.Feb.2013 in Mukura sector in Rutsiro district.
The official function was held in Kagusa cell on Bukeye site. Terraces that were grown in irish potatoes in the last season were remade. Farmers in Mukura sector were asked to farm well protecting the terraces to increase their production by the agronomist of Rutsiro district Melane Ndayishimiye.
Nsabuwera Vincent LWF representative on the National level asked people to work together to promote agriculture. He asked farmers who are through with planting because of working in teams to support others who are still in the process for them not to miss out in the season.
“If necessary support them through community work, check out the elders and help them out as there is no individual development. Working together as teams will take you to professional farming” said Nsabuwera Vincent.
Farmers in this zone promised to protect their crops and farms till harvest time. After planting maize, farmers are going to make a close follow up of the growth, use fertilisers in weeding so as to get enough harvest confirms Yvonne Tuyishimire a farmer in this zone.
Land Husbandry, Water Harvesting and Hillside Irrigation Project support people to conserve the land for enough production in agriculture.
Among LWH projects in agriculture are done in terraces made specifically in 3 sectors of Mukura sector of Rutsiro district and Rugabano and Rubengera sectors in Karongi district. LWH supports about 3750 beneficiaries in 230 teams.
