On February 23rd 2013, the Rwanda Girl Guides association (AGR) closed the national girl guides week in Karongi district in western province.

The closing ceremony kicked off with a community work that took place at Gatwaro hill in Bwishyura sector in Karongi district.

After the community work that commenced the event, talks concerning this year’s the guides’ purpose followed. The year’s theme says, “The health of the mother and the baby is precious, let’s protect it.”

Marie Jeanne Claire Irere, commissioner in charge of property at Rwanda Girl Guides association (AGR) reminded them that the theme corresponds with the government’s vision to prevent deaths of pregnant women, women in labour and post birth mothers.

Girl guides took time to educate the residents on the importance of eating the balanced diet, sleeping under the mosquito nets, caring for the pregnant women and infants.

Karongi district mayor, Bernard Kayumba thanked the guides for their contribution in girl child education and district development.

“To me, guides program is an answer to Rwandans because the society is built on the girl child,” he says.

The girl guides week at national level started on February 16th 2013 in Rukira sector in Ngoma district in Eastern Province.

In the same week, guides started door to door campaign in Rwampara sector in Nyarugenge district in connection with the year’s theme.

The Rwanda Girl Guides Association (RGGA) is a non profit organization, non-political, none based on beliefs or nationality. It is a volunteering and educational organization, based on spiritual values and widely open for all girls and young women.

Rwanda Girl Guides association (AGR) is a voluntary organisation that started in 1980 in Rwanda with an aim of promoting a girl child. It has over 12.000 members in Rwanda.
