Bugesera is one of the districts in Rwanda that was affected greatly by environmental degradation which demanded a lot of strength and action to restore it by growing lots of trees.

This is still needed the reason Compassion International gave its beneficiaries avocado trees, mangoes, oranges and others to primary and secondary school students to plant in their homes explained Pastor Etienne Gahigi the head of this forum.

“This is our way of supporting poor families to change their social lives, these trees will produce fruits to fight poor eating habits and besides they can sell these fruits and get money to solve their problems” Pastor Etienne Gahigi said.

Henriette Uwineza is one of the children who were given plants for fruits; says she is going to take care of her tree because she knows its importance. “Trees provide clean breathing air, fruits and protect the environment.”

Mr. Jacques Gashumba the executive secretary of Nyamata sector asked children who were given the trees to take good care of them for these trees to play the role they were given out for and also for students to perform well in schools.

The function of giving these children trees and scholastic materials including books, pens and hygienic tools has been done in all sectors of Bugesera district and it was concluded in Nyamata sector on Wednesday the 2nd.Jan.2012.
