The Water Aid Project is set to solve the shortage of water problem that has been consistent in Bugesera District.
In the last 2 years that Water Aid Project has been operating in Bugesera district, has supported the district in its quest to provide people with clean and pure water.
This was done specifically by giving water tanks to hold rain water to Nyamata High School and Juru Primary School and getting water from underground in the valleys of Juru sector.

“We are yet to find solutions on water shortage problem through different methods like using rain water, renovating water pipes, and use of water tanks” Says Joyeuse Noëlla Urwibutso the director of Water Aid Project in Bugesera district.
Shortage of water has been a placing concern to residents of Bugesera district but especially in schools. Most of the evenings, students carry jerry cans looking for water in people’s homes and in valleys and swamps for their own use.
“Having water tanks in our school saved us from long journeys we would take to find water which would distract our concentration on our studies” says Jacky Benurugo a student at Nyamata High School “We are now doing well thanks to Water Aid Project”.
The mayor of Bugesera district Louis Rwagaju appreciates the role of Water Aid Project and promised to work together to solve water shortage problem and sanitation in the district.
“Not only schools gained form this project but also residents near these schools get water from these water tanks.” The mayor explained.
Apart from providing water to the people of Bugesera district, Water Aid Project built toilets for Juru Primary School and also for Ruhuha market after the market toilet got filled and made market goers uncomfortable.
