Though education improved, some girls are facing challenges that force them out of school before completing secondary education.

This was revealed by Faustin Rubayiza, Plan Rwanda worker in charge of Kiziguro sector during the closing ceremony of civic education programme for girls supported by Plan Rwanda.

The event took place on December 21st 2012 in Rwimbogo sector in Gatsibo district.

Plan Rwanda helps girls from poor families by paying school fees for the best students in National Examinations and provides other necessary materials, explains Rubayiza.

Rubayiza asserts “we are helping 295 girls in government secondary schools from form four to senior six in Gatsibo district.”

Civic education program is a platform for youth to air out their ideas on different problems they face.

Josephine Bamurange, one of the students that had completed civic education program, revealed that she has learnt to fight for her rights and she will advise others to dignify themselves.

This program happens once in a year and it was for the second time since Plan Rwanda started helping female youth.
